The View From Down Here
The content of my thesis focused on themes of loss and aging-the perpetual process of declining and rebuilding. The dissimilarity of relationships was central to the work, motivated by public and private, gentle versus aggressive, and old with the new. One of the ways these contradictions were revealed in the work was through scale, creating miniature cinderblocks to represent a fragment of memory. Repetition of form, color and mixed media were assembled to create large structures associated with personal narratives.
